Job Type:
Dynamically Updated Catalog Site with CMS
Technologies Employed:
PHP, MySQL, Unix crontab, JavaScript, AJAX, CSS, XHTML
About This Project:
This Web site presents books published by Perseus Books Group member publishers and distribution clients for course-adoption consideration. Through an online ordering system, professors can request desk and exam copies of any book listed on the site, paying a small shipping charge on some items.
Site features include:
- Extensive title data that is dynamically served and updated from a weekly feed: An automated, scheduled script on the site’s server checks for the presence of the weekly data feed and, if found, loads information from that feed into a locally hosted database.
- A Web-based content-management system (CMS) that allows academic marketing staff to update book information and publish additional marketing materials, conference schedules, and more to the site through a series of Web-based forms that require no special knowledge of HTML or other markup or code.
- Comprehensive Web-based reporting tools that provide academic marketing staff access to order information and customer details for all exam- and desk-copy requests placed through the site.
- A full suite of Web-based customer account registration, order tracking, and management tools.
- An order processing system with automated daily data feeds out to the Perseus Books Group’s own internal systems, where orders are sent for fulfilment and subsequent customer service support.
